What are Executive Functioning skills?
Executive Functioning involves a set of skills. These skills give us the ability to plan ahead and meet goals, display self-control, follow multiple-step directions and the ability to handle interruptions to our focus and attention. The brain needs the coordination of these skills to filter distractions, prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals, and control impulses.
Therapy for Executive Functioning skills can help children of all ages who:
- Appear disorganized within themselves, with their belongings, or in their environment.
- Appear forgetful and may require assistance with staying on task
- Have difficulty completing school tasks where planning, memory and problem solving are needed
- Have poor self control
- Appear impulsive
- Difficulty completing tasks
Results you can expect after therapy focusing on Executive Functioning skills:
We work one-on-one to determine appropriate strategies that will be effective in their home and school lives. With the proper implementation of these strategies, the child will be able to handle more tasks at the same time, complete tasks and stay focussed while engaged in a task. The child will have an improved ability to control impulses and self regulate.
